Monarchs Defeat W&M, 4-3 In Ten Innings

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. -- Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) scored on a squeeze play in the tenthinning to give Old Dominion a 4-3 victory over William and Mary. The start of the game wasdelayed two hours because of rain. ODU is now 18-20 overall and 2-9 in the CAA, while theTribe drops to 21-22 overall and 4-8 in the CAA.

With William and Mary leading 3-1 in the top of the tenth and the ace reliever, ChrisRay on the mound, ODU scored two runs without a hit to tie the game. Jess Schoendienst(Belcamp, MD.) and Joe Moore (Woodbridge, VA.) each walked. Demarque Hairston (Martinsville,Va.) who came in to pinch-run for Schoendienst scored from second on an error by theTribe firstbaseman. Moore then came home with the tying run on an RBI groundout by KevinSnapp (Yorba Linda, CA.).

In the tenth inning, Musolf led off with a double. Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) sacrificedhim to third. John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) then dropped a bunt down and Musolf scored togive ODU the lead for good.

Senior lefthander Jonathon Tinkham (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up the win in relief toimprove his record to 3-1. Freshman James Burok (Archbald, PA.) picked six innings,fanning six and walking only one.

The Monarchs first run of the day came in the third inning as Joe Moore singled homeJohn Oehler, breaking a Monarch scoreless streak of 29 straight innings against theTribe this year.

Two of the Tribes runs came on solo homers, by C.J. Stimson in the second and by MitchWalk in the sixth. Matt Kirby scored in the eighth on a wild pitch.

ODU returns to action on Tuesday when they host Radford at 3 p.m.
