Men's Hoops Falls To VCU, 58-54, In CAA Quarterfinals

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - L.F. Likcholitov hit a free throw and a short jumper inthe final 1:47 Saturday night and Virginia Commonwealth beat Old Dominion 58-54in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals.

The Rams (20-10), will face 10th-seeded Hofstra in Sunday's secondsemi-final game. The Pride beat 7th-seeded Towson in the first round andstunned second-seeded George Mason 82-76 in an earlier game Saturday.

Old Dominion (13-16) went 8:19 without a field goal in the second half buttrailed by only 44-43 after Pierre Greene broke the drought with a 3-pointerwith 7:32 remaining. The Rams ran off the next 10 points and the Monarchsfollowed with an 11-point run, tying it at 54 with 2:11 to play.

Likcholitov and Emanuel Mathis each hit one-of-two free throws and thenLikcholitov hit a short-jumper from the side of the lane to give the Rams a58-54 lead with 40.3 seconds remaining. The Rams missed the front end of twoone-and-one situations, but Old Dominion couldn't capitalize.

The Monarchs missed their final three shots from the field.

Willie Tayor, Domonic Jones and Antoine Willie each had 11 points for theRams.

Old Dominion, which hit just eight of 29 field goals in the second half, wasled by Rasheed Wright with 13 points. Ricardo Marsh had 12 points and John Waller had10.
