Monarchs Rally To Defeat #18 ECU, 9-6

GREENVILLE, NC - Old Dominion erupted for four runs in the top of theninth inning for a come-from-behind 9-6 victory over 18th ranked East CarolinaTuesday afternoon. Junior thirdbaseman Kevin Snapp (Yorba Linda, CA.) knockedin three runs on the day, including the game tying run.

Freshman righthander Justin Verlander (Goochland, Va.) picked up histhird win with a complete game outing. He fanned seven on the day, scattering11 hits.

ECU took a 6-2 lead into the top of the seven, but the Monarchs scored threeruns as Snapp singled home Ryan Harvey (Riverside, CA.) and Mike Croley (Jupiter,FL.). DeMarquee Hairston then scored on a throwing error.

In the ninth, with the score, 6-5, ECU, Snapp doubled home Harvey to tiedthe game. Alan Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) singled in pinch runner Joe Moore (Woodbridge, Va.) to give ODU a 7-6 lead. Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) followed with a single to score Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, Pa.), aking it 8-6 and Strick scored on Brandon Lenoir's single to give ODU a 9-6 lead.

Sollenberger, Strick, Musolf and Snapp each had two hits on the day for theMonarchs. ECU was led by Jamie Paige with three hits.

In the second inning, with ECU up 2-0, Brent Sollenberger homered, followedby Allen Strick with a homer to tie the game at two.

ODU returns home Wednesday to host VMI at 1:00 p.m. at the Bud MethenyComplex.
