March 2, 1977, ODU defeats Georgetown, 80-58 in the ECAC South Finals.Freshman All-American Ronnie Valentine scored 36 and ODU's first Div. I All-American Wilson Washington scored 18 points and hauled in 11 rebounds.
March 3, 1997- Two-time CAA Player of the Year, Odell Hodge scored 16 pointsand Mike Byers added 14 to lead ODU to a 62-58 overtime win over JMU in theCAA Championship.
March 4, 1995 - Old Dominion defeated George Mason, 110-94 as Mario Mullenscored 31 points and David Harvey hauled in ten rebounds....In 1989 Chris Gatlingscored 36 points (23 in the second half and six in overtime), but ODU lost to UABin the Sun Belt Semi-Finals, 89-87.

DID YOU KNOW?The CAA is one of only three Division I Conferences (out of 31) to have all of itsmembers with at least five league victories. MARCUS DREWRYJunior Marcus Drewry (Evanston, IL.) Missed the first half of the season recovering from surgery to repair an unhealed stress fracture in his right foot. Drewry wasborn in nearby Portsmouth, VA.. His mother Karen was a Virginia High School LeagueAll-Star. She once scored 68 points in a game, and in 1988 helped Hampton Universitywin the NCAA Div. II National Championship. She is HU's fourth all-time assist leaderwith 352.

GREENE, THE FIRST TO GRADUATE : When Pierre Greene receives his diplomain May, he will be the first in his family to do so. The Senior guard Pierre Greene was selected to the CAA pre-season men's basketball All-CAA team by the league's head coaches and media in attendance at media day on Oct. 31 in Baltimore, MD. As a team, the Monarchs were picked to finish seventh. He has 911 career points. He scored thefinal ODU basket in the the fieldhouse.
WALK-ON'S:The Monarchs have two walk-ons in sophomore Andreas Themistocleous (Nicosia,Cyprus) and junior Samir Hickson (Collegeville, Pa.). Themistocoleous appeared in15 games last year, including a career high seven points against Taylor's Stanfordsquad in the Puerto Rico Shootout, and has thus far played in 14 games this season. Hickson got into the Coastal Carolina game.
GLOBAL SPECTRUM TO MANAGE CONSTANT CENTEROld Dominion University has selected the Philadelphia based firm Global Spectrumto manage the 8,600 seat Constant Convocation Center, which is slated to open in late fall of 2002. The highly regarded company provides management for public assemblyfacilities across the country, most notably the First Union Center, which is home to theNBA's Philadelphia 76ers, as well as facilities at Temple, South Carolina and RhodeIsland.
CENTER CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:
* General Contractor, S.B. Ballard is ahead of schedule
* Construction is over 55% complete.
* The arena roof long span trusses that will support a four-sided scoreboard With jumbo-tron video screens on each side have been installed.
* Installation of the sound attenuating arena steal roof decking has begun. This System will help improve the quality and clarity of the sound system.
* The building is expected to be completely weather tight by March.
CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Troy Nance was named CAA Player of the Week on Dec. 17.
Ricardo Marsh was named CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 25.
DEFENSE
24 Monarch opponents have shot under 50 percent from the floor.Virginia Tech was held to .298 shooting, , W&M (twice) .288 , & Hofstra .283the lowest since ODU held American to .259 shooting in 1996. The Hokies scored 19 points in the first half, the lowest since VMI was held to11 in 1982. ECU shot .333
Hampton, Delaware and Towson & Drexel have shot over 50 percent. The Pirates hit .582 for the game. The Blue Hens hit .522., the Towson Tigers hit .523, and Drexelhit .532. Three of the last four opponents have shot over 50 percent.
