Norfolk, VA-The sixteenth-ranked ODU Lady Monarchs closed down their Fieldhouse in style this evening, throttling conference foe William & Mary 70-36 to improve to 22-5 overall, 18-0 CAA. The Tribe falls to 11-16 overall, 5-13 CAA.
The Lady Monarchs took control of this contest early, staking a 30-15 halftime lead on the inside play of seniors Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France) and Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali). Berthieu racked up 10 first half points and six rebounds while Maiga scored seven with seven boards.
The closest the Tribe would come in the first half--and the game--was at the 9:14 mark when they trailed 13-8.
Old Dominion put the finishing touches on the game with a 14-5 run to open the second-half, effectively ending things. The Lady Monarchs shot a collective .571 from the floor and outrebounded the Green & Gold 44-19 in posting their last regular-season victory in the Fieldhouse.
William & Mary shot just .250 for the game and must now await the outcome of the final CAA games this weekend to determine where they will be seeded for the upcoming conference tournament.
On a night when program was honoring it's five seniors, it was fitting that they all contributed to the win. ODU was led by Berthieu, who scored a game-high 22 points with 14 rebounds. Maiga put in 14 points with 12 rebounds and Sharron Francis (W. Lanham Hills, MD) scored six while dishing out eight assists.
Sharlenia Charles (Brooklyn, NY) added four points with one rebound and Tiffany Thompson (Clinton, MD) scored two points with three assists and four rebounds in her senior finale.
The Tribe was led by Jami Lange, who scored 13.
Old Dominion will host the women's CAA basketball tournament, March 6-9 at the Fieldhouse.
