#20 ODU Rolls Over George Mason in Women's Basketball, 69-31

Norfolk, VA-The twentieth-ranked Old Dominion women's basketball squad had little trouble picking up their ninth-straight win this evening with a 69-31 triumph over CAA foe George Mason.

Leading 17-9 at the 13:09 mark of the first half, the Lady Monarchs ripped off a 15-0 run that knocked the Patriots out of the running early on. Old Dominion went into the locker room with a comfortable 36-12 lead, with senior forward Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali) scoring 13 of those points.

The Lady Monarchs continued to exert their dominance in the second half, scoring at will against a depleted George Mason squad that was without leading scorer Laura Kooij. Every player on the ODU roster saw action in the game and contributed in some way, with reserves Kim Giddens (Painter, VA) and Shareese Grant (Virginia Beach, VA) picking up eight points each.

Old Dominion improves to 16-5 and 12-0 in the CAA while the Patriots fall to 11-12 and 5-7 CAA.

Maiga led all scorers with 17 points and five rebounds while Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France) scored 10. Sophomore Monique Coker (Bronx, NY) added nine points with seven rebounds.

George Mason was led by Vernessa Neamo, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out.

The Patriots shot just .190 from the field compared to ODU's .491. The Lady Monarchs also held a slight edge in rebounds, 47-44.

Old Dominion will return to action on Sunday, February 10 against Delaware.
