NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion men's basketball team never trailed as they put together back-to-back wins for the first time since early January in a 69-53 victory over the Hofstra Pride at the Fieldhouse. The Monarchs improve their record to 12-14 overall and 6-10 in the CAA. The Pride meanwhile fall to 10-17 and 5-11 in conference play.

The Monarchs took a 10-3 run to open the game and never looked back. Old Dominion held a 33-19 edge at the half and held Hofstra to just 21 percent from the floor in the first stanza. Meanwhile, Old Dominion shot 45 percent.

The second half was more of the same as the Monarchs extended their lead by as much as 21. Hofstra closed within six in the first five minutes. A jumper by Woody Souffrant brought the Pride within six capping an 8-2 Hofstra run, but it would be as close as the Pride would get. Sophomore John Waller (Richmond, VA) gave the Monarchs a sizeable 59-38 margin with 8:24 remaining and two free throws by sophomore Joe Principe (Gladstone, MO) again gave Old Dominion a 21-point lead, 59-38, with 7:38 on the clock.

Waller came off the bench to net all of his team-high 17 points during the second half of play. After shooting just 0-4 from the field in the first half, Waller connected on 6-of-8 in the second. All together four Monarchs reached double figures led by Waller. Junior Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC) scored 12 points, while senior Pierre Greene (Chicago, IL) poured in 11 points to go along with seven assists. Junior Ricardo Marsh (Mebane, NC) collected his second straight double-double and fifth of the year with 11 points and 13 boards.

For Hofstra, Rick Apodaca scored a game-high 19 points as the only Pride member in double figures. Apodaca, who played all 40 minutes, also added four steals and three assists. Kenny Adeleke and Souffrant each registered nine points.

The Monarchs return to action on Saturday afternoon in their final regular season road tilt of the season at William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. Old Dominion will say "Farewell to the Fieldhouse" when they host George Mason on Monarch, Feb. 25th in the regular season finale.

Note: Sophomore Charles Dunnington (Washington, D.C.) was suspended from the Monarchs men's basketball team indefinitely for a violation of team rules.
