Norfolk, VA-The Old Dominion baseball team took two games from the U.S. Naval Academy this afternoon, 5-4 and 5-3. The Monarchs improve to 2-1 while the Midshipmen fall to 1-5.
In game 1, the Monarchs scored three runs in the final three innings to post a 5-4 come-from-behind win. Junior catcher John Oehler (Audubon, NJ) knocked in a homer and went 3-4 and Ryan Harvey (Riverside, CA) finished 3-5.
OF Craig Candeto finished 3-4 for Navy.
Junior Kevin Evans (Shamong, NJ) picked up the win for Old Dominion, pitching one inning after James Burok (Archbald, PA) and Jonathan Tinkham (Chesapeake, VA) scattered five hits over 8 innings. Burok, a freshman, struck out eight and and scattered three hits and four runs over 5.1 innings.
In game 2, Old Dominion overcame five errors to win 5-3. Junior Ryan Williams (Va. Beach, VA) pitched 8.2 innings and gave up three runs and eight hits. Evans, making his second appearance of the afternoon, finished off the evening for the Monarchs by retiring the last batter.
Brandon LeNoir (Ocala, FL) went 2-3 and OF Ryan Harvey went 2-4.
Navy was led by 2B Chris Ashinhurst, who was 2-4.
Navy and Old Dominion will conclude their series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
