Norfolk, VA-The nineteenth-ranked ODU women's basketball squad had three players score in double-digits this evening as they defeated CAA foe UNC-Wilmington, 72-40. The Lady Monarchs are now 18-5, 14-0 CAA while the Seahawks slip to 12-11, 6-8 CAA.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Lady Monarchs raced out to a 34-20 halftime lead and never looked back. Seahawk Jennifer Kapper kept her team in the running for a while with 10 points in the first half, but overall the visitors were just 7-20 from the field.
Old Dominion picked up where they left off after the intermission, going inside with Monique Coker (Bronx, NY), Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France) and Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali). When the Seahawks collapsed inside, junior Okeisha Howard delivered from the perimeter for her team, scoring 12 points in a reserve role.
Berthieu led all scorers with 14 points while Maiga recorded another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Coker scored nine with 11 rebounds and senior Sharron Francis assisted on nine buckets. Francis is now just five points shy of scoring 1,000 career points.
