PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Robert Battle and Tim Whitworth each scored 20 points to lead Drexel to an 80-70 victory over Old Dominion Monday night.
Drexel (13-11, 10-5 Colonial Athletic Association) used a 23-4 run over 6:49 of the second half to take control of the game. The Dragons led by as many as 20. Old Dominion (10-14, 4-10) rallied back late with a 14-5 run and trailed by as few as seven.
Battle also had 10 rebounds and a game-high six blocks. Phil Goss added 17 points for Drexel.
Ricardo Marsh was the leader for Old Dominion with a game-high 21 points. John Waller scored 15 points, Kiah Thomas scored 11 points. Rasheed Wright added 10 pointsand a game-high 12 rebounds for the Monarchs. For Waller, it was his fourth straight double-figure night.
Drexel shot 53 percent from the field for the game, while Old Dominion shot 37 percent from the field.
Phil Goss hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Dragons a 36-33 lead with 18:28 remaining in the game. Drexel didn't trail from that point on. ODU trailed 41-40 with 15:09 left after a Marsh basket, but the Dragons went on a 21-2 run and built a 62-42 lead with9:25 left.
The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they host James Madison at 7:35 p.m.That game will be salute to the 1990's night as the third part of the "Farewell to the fieldhouse celebrations."
