Norfolk, VA-Old Dominion University senior Pierre Greene (Chicago, IL) scored 24 points to key the Monarchs to a come-from-behind 74-66 win over CAA foe Drexel this evening. The Monarchs snap a four game losing streak and improve to 7-6 overall, 1-2 CAA. The Dragons fall to 6-7, 3-1 CAA.
Drexel jumped ahead early on strong play from forward Tim Whitworth, who led the Dragons with seven points in the first half. Drexel dominated play underneath the boards and held a 10 point lead throughout much of the first half, eventually going to the locker room with 36-28 advantage.
The Monarchs came alive in the second half, taking their first lead of the game at the 8:21 mark on a Ricardo Marsh (Mebane, NC) layup. After the Dragons reclaimed the lead on a pair of Doug Fairfax free-throws at 6:58, Old Dominion went ahead for good as Marsh and Greene took over. The duo combined to score all but two of ODU's next 18 points and complete the comeback.
Greene's 24 points this evening is one shy of his career high. The senior also chipped in two rebounds and one assist.
Marsh added 16 points and nine rebounds for Old Dominion. Fellow forward Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC) put in 15 with nine boards.
Drexel was led by center Robert Battle, who scored 17 points with 11 rebounds. Guard Eric Schmieder was next with 11 and Phil Goss tallied 10.
Old Dominion will take on another CAA foe on Monday, January 7 when they host Delaware at 7:35 p.m. in the fieldhouse.
