HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Kenny Adeleke had 18 points and Hofstra held on for a67-66 victory over Old Dominion on Thursday night, snapping a five-game losingstreak.
Lars Grubler and Rick Apodaca each had 15 points for the Pride (6-7, 1-1Colonial Athletic Association), despite some second half heroics by theMonarchs Troy Nance.
Troy Nance had 14 points and Ricardo Marsh added 13 for the Monarchs (6-6,0-2), who lost their fourth straight. Nance scored seven straight at one stretch inthe secondhalft. With Hofstra leading 53-49 with 8:21 left, Nance put the Monarchs up56-55 with 6:44 left. He also gave ODU it's last lead of the night with a basketat the 3:35 mark for a 64-63 lead.
Grubler scored the first six points of the second half as Hofstra went on a15-7 run to take a 39-38 lead with 14:41 left. Grubler's layup with 2:48accounted for the 13th and final lead change as Hofstra went up 65-64.
Apodaca made one free throw with 1:50 left and Joel Suarez made another with30 seconds left to give Hofstra a 67-64 lead. Pierre Greene hit jumper with 22seconds left to bring the Monarchs within one and the Pride then turned theball over. Green's jumper from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded went inand out.
There were 19 lead changes and nine ties. ODU shot .394 from the floor, whileHofstra hit .451 of their shots and .536 in the second half.The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they host Drexel at 7:35 p.m. in thefieldhouse.
