Lady Monarchs Hand Hofstra A 82-48 Defeat In First Ever CAA Meeting

NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team picked up another CAA victory this evening, 82-48 over the Hofstra Pride. The twenty-fourth ranked Lady Monarchs are now 10-5 overall, 7-0 CAA. The Pride slips to 4-11, 1-5 CAA.

The outcome of the contest was never in doubt as the Lady Monarchs cruised to a 47-17 halftime lead, allowing every player on the ODU bench to see playing time.

Five players scored in double-digits for Old Dominion, led by senior Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali), who tallied 15 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, just shy of a triple-double in just 26 minutes. Fellow forward Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France) picked up 10 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes. Senior Sharron Francis (West Lanham Hills, MD), who replaced the injured Okeisha Howard (Va. Beach, VA) at the point, collected 14 points and five assist. Off the bench sophomores Monique Coker (Bronx, NY) and Myriah Spence (Espanola, New Mexico) poured in 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Pride was led by guard Jennifer Brickey, who scored 13 points. With her seventh point of the evening, Brickey became 15th Pride women's basketball member to net 1,000 career points Kimberly Coke put in 10 points as well as the only other Hofstra player in double figures.

The Lady Monarchs outrebounded the Pride 47-23, and shot .508 from the field compared to the opposition's .358.

Old Dominion will be back in action on Sunday, January 20 when they host Drexel at the fieldhouse.
