FAIRFAX, Va. (February 6) -- Sophomore Okeisha Howard (Virginia Beach,Va.) scored a game-high 15 points to lead Old Dominion over George Mason,73-64, in a Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball game in the PatriotCenter. With the win, the Lady Monarchs picked up their 111th straight CAA win toimprove to 13-7 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the conference. George Mason falls to15-5 overall and 6-3 in the CAA.
Despite early foul trouble, including three starters with three ormore fouls, four Lady Monarchs scored in double figures. Howard's 15 included 9-of-10shooting from the line, while Spence finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. SeniorHamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali) scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high four steals.
The freshman duo of Monique Coker (Bronx, NY) and Myriah Spence (Espanola, NM) had10 and 13 points respectively.
George Mason would claw back into things with an 11-3 Patriot runwith 7:05 remaining in the game, but the Lady Monarchs answered with their own 11-0 runin the next four minutes, and went on to win 73-64.
After the Patriots took their only lead of the game, 13-12 in thefirst half, Old Dominion responded with a three-pointer by Myriah Spence to reclaim the lead,15-13. The Lady Monarchs led 34-27 at the half, and would not trail again.
Old Dominion will begin the second half of the CAA season with a gameat American Sunday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs return to the FieldhouseThursday, February 15 in a 7:35 pm contest against UNC-Wilmington.
