LAST GAME: The Monarchs lost at William & Mary Saturday night, 72-62. Ricardo Marsh scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Troy Nance added 12 points. ODU shot .370 (20-54) from the field, while W&M shot .605 (23-38). A week ago -ODU lost to James Madison , 57-49. Andre McCullum led with 18 points, and Pierre Greene scored ten. ODU shot .339 (20-59) from the floor and the Dukes outrebounded the Monarchs, 41-35. Trailing by as many as 16 in the first half, ODU rallied in the second half and took the lead three different times, the last, 45-44 with7:56 left.
JEFF CAPEL-HEAD COACH:(Fayetteville State '77), is in his seventh year at the helm of the Monarchs. He is 199-159 in his12th season and 120-94 at Old Dominion. Capel was the1995 CAA and NABC District IV Coach of the Year. In 1997 he was named Virginia College Coach of the Year. He won his 100th collegiate victory in the Monarchs 89-81 triple overtime win over ninth ranked Villanova in the 1995 NCAA Tournament. Capel was 16-14 in 1994 at NCA&T, losing in the NCAA first round to Arkansas. He compiled a 63-51 mark at his alma mater, Fayetteville State, taking the Broncos to the NCAA Div. II regionals in 1993. Capel was inducted into the Fayetteville State University Hall of Fame in 1999. His Monarch teams have reached the CAA finals three times, winning twice.

THIS DAY IN ODU ATHLETIC HISTORY: Feb. 21, 1977 Ronnie Valentine scored 38 points to lead the Monarchs to an 82-68 victory over William and Mary. The win was part of the Monarchs then state record 22 straight that season. ODU would go on to beat Georgetown in the ECAC-South Finals, before losing to Syracuse in the ECAC North-South Finals and Villanova in the NIT. The Monarchs were 25-4 in their first Div. I season.

FATHER - SON COMBINATION: Jeff Capel, III, joins his father's coaching staff after a stellar career at Duke University. Capel scored 1,601 career points and ranks third all-time at Duke and 13th all-time in the ACC with 220 career three-pointers.
SERIES VS. GMU: ODU leads the series, 23-6, but the Patriots have won five of the last six meetings. The two teams played on Jan. 13 in Fairfax, Va. with GMU winning, 81-76. Andre McCullum led with 23 points, Rasheed Wright scored 15 and Clifton Jones scored 11 with 14 rebounds. Erik Herring led GMU with 23 points and eight rebounds, George Evans scored 16, hauled in 12 boards and blocked five shots with four steals. ODU trailed by 15(52-37) with 17:48 left, but rallied to take a 62-61 lead with 8:20 left.

The Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner Tom Yeager announced on Dec. 13 that the University of Delaware(Newark, De.), Drexel University (Philadelphia, Pa.), Hofstra University (Hempstead, NY.) and TowsonUniversity (Baltimore, Md.)will join the conference effective July 1, 2003.

ABOUT OLD DOMINION
ODU is a state school located in Norfolk, Va. The University was founded in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary...the name Old Dominion is the nickname of the State of Virginia.
SCHOOL OF CHAMPIONS: Old Dominion's Field Hockey squad captured their ninth NCAA title with a 3-1 win over North Carolina. Led by four-time CAA Player of the Year Marina DiGiacomo who scored an NCAA record 167 career goals and 414 career points. DiGiacomo also was named the Honda Award winner for that sport, Old Dominion's fifth field hockey player to do so. The University athletic teams have won 28 National Titles (24 teams titles, Sailing 11, Field Hockey 9, Women's basketball 3, Men's Basketball 1)...Three wrestling individual NCAA titles (Div. II) and one Women's Individual Tennis title.
NCAA TOURNAMENT This year's CAA Tournament will be March 3-5 at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va. The finals will be live on Monday night, March 5 on ESPN2.
