Monarchs Win Exhibition, 89-82 Over Kentucky ABA

NORFOLK, VA. - Old Dominion University placed six players in doublefigures to win their second exhibition game with an 89-82 victory over KentuckyABA Thursday night.

Pierre Greene (Chicago, IL.) Led the way with 16 points, six assists andfour steals, while sophomore John Waller (Richmond, Va.) scored 15 points, hittingthree-of-four from three-point range. Ricardo Marsh (Mebane, NC.) scored tenpoints and hauled in 16 rebounds, Troy Nance (Va. Beach, Va.) scored 13 and dishedout five assists. Charles Dunnington (Washington, DC.) scored ten points, whilefellow center Clay McGowen (Westerville, OH.) scored seven points, grabbednine rebounds and blocked three shots.

The Monarchs led by one at halftime, 48-47 on Wallers 12 and Dunnington'sten points. In the second half, Marsh took control of the boards with 13 of his 16.ODU shot .631 (19-31) from the floor in the first half and .576 for the game, and outreboundedKentucky ABA, 42-31.

Kentucky ABA part of the NBA developmental program tied the game at 51 with 17:28left, but the Monarchs went on a 16-6 run to take a ten point lead as Pierre Greene scoredsix points in that stretch. The visitors would rally to take a 74-73 lead with 5:41 left in thegame, but Troy Nance proceeded to score eight straight points, including a trey to helpput the Monarchs back in front for good.

Kentucky ABA was led by Sean Daugherty (Wisconsin) led Kentucky ABA with18 points and Gary Lumpkin (Xavier) added 15 points.

The Monarchs open up the regular season Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the NABC GuardiansClassic against Sacramento State. Game time is 6 p.m. eastern. Host Memphis will playWofford at 7:30. The winner of the tournament advances with three other regional winnersto Kansas City, MO. On Nov. 20-21.
