NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion women's basketball teams gears up for the regular season with an exhibition game tonight against Remus Austria Powerbasket Wels, a team put together by Basketball Travelers Inc. This will mark the first of two exhibition games at the field house prior to the tip-off the regular season.

ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS: The Old Dominion women's basketball teams gears up for the regular season with an exhibition game tonight against Remus Austria Powerbasket Wels, a team put together by Basketball Travelers Inc. This will mark the first of two exhibition games at the field house prior to the tip-off the regular season. MI Express will enter the Fieldhouse next week on Tuesday, Nov. 13th.

A BACKGROUND ON THE OPPONENT: Remus Powerbasket is coming off a 102-41 loss to the Connecticut Huskies up in Storrs, CT. The Huskies were led by seniors Swin Cash and Asjha Jones, each with 19 points. For Remus Powerbasket, Samantha Woosnam led her team with 17 points, while teammate Agnes Doycinova poured in 14 points.

THE NEW LU: Senior forward Lucienne Berthieu took to the court for the first time since the 1999-2000 season during the Lady Monarch's annual Blue and White Scrimmage. Berthieu was sidelined last season due to a torn ACL. As a member of the Blue Team, Berthieu netted 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and grabbed three rebounds.

ANOTHER NEW FACE: The Lady Monarchs added Kelly Hill, a walk-on from Louisiana to this year's roster. Hill, who averaged 15 points and seven rebounds at De La Salle High School, will be wearing number 15.

WE'RE PICKED NUMBER ONE: Old Dominion was the unanimous choice of the media to win the 2001-02 CAA women's basketball championship in a vote taken Wednesday at CAA basketball media day at the ESPNZone in Baltimore. ODU senior forward Lucienne Berthieu, who missed all of last season with a knee injury after earning CAA Player of the Year honors in 1999 and 2000, was selected as CAA Preseason Player of the Year for 2002. Joining her on the preseason All-CAA squad were teammates Hamchetou Maiga, the 2001 CAA Player of the Year and Okeisha Howard, James Madison junior forward Nadine Morgan and Virginia Commonwealth senior guard Rochelle Luckett.

TURNER TO MISS 2001-02 SEASON: Lady Monarch red-shirt freshman Corrina Turner will sit out the 2001-2002 basketball season after suffering a knee injury during a pick-up game. A MRI performed confirmed that Turner has torn her ACL on the same knee that caused her to sit out most of the 2000-2001 season.

TV TIME: The Lady Monarchs' match-up with James Madison will appear on Comcast SportsNet in the Baltimore-Washington area which reaches over three million households. The CAA Tournament championships game will also air on the same network on March 9th.

PRE-SEASON TUNE-UP: The Lady Monarchs will take part in two exhibitions games before tipping off the 2001-02 regular season. The Basketball Travlers will come to the Fieldhouse on Wednesday night at 7:35 p.m. The final tune-up before the first regular season game will be against MI Express on Tuesday, November 13th at 7:35 p.m.

WELCOME TO THE LEAGUE: Towson, Drexel, Hofstra, and Delaware enter their first season of play in the "New CAA". The Lady Monarchs will waste no time in meeting one of the new teams as they host the Towson Tigers in their first game of the season on Friday, November 16th.

TICKET REMINDER: Individual game tickets for both men's and women's basketball went on sale on Monday, November 5th. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 discount/youth/senior citizen/ODU faculty/staff.
