Howard, Spence Lead Lady Monarchs To 70-51 Win Over VCU

RICHMOND, Va. - Junior guard Okiesha Howard (Va. Beach, Va.) cameoff the bench in the second half to score all 20 of her points and Alli Spence (Lafayette, CA.)added 13 in her first start of the year to lift 17th ranked Old Dominion to a 70-51 CAA victory over Virginia Commonwealth Friday night. The Lady Monarchs are now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the CAA, while VCU drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the CAA.

Howard, who was held out of the first half because of violation of team rules,hit eight of 11 shots from the field in 15 minutes of playing time. Senior LucienneBerthieu (Rennes, France) scored 11 and hauled in a game high ten rebounds. TiffanyThompson (Clinton, MD.) came up with eight rebounds.

Old Dominion shot .490 (25-51) from the floor, while holding the Rams to.317 (20-63) shooting. The Lady Monarchs outrebounded VCU, 46-32.

Old Dominion led by four points at halftime, 29-25 as Alli Spence led witheight points and sophomore Monique Coker (Bronx, NY.) added six. In the second halfwith Howard in the lineup, the Lady Monarchs shot .560 (14-25) from the floorand took complete control of the contest.

VCU was paced by Kristine Austgulen with 21 points and six rebounds.Rochelle Lucket scored nine points with six assists.

Old Dominion returns to action on Monday night when they travel to Raleigh,NC to take on the Wolfpack of N.C. State at 7 p.m.
