#18 Lady Monarchs Roll Past Towson, 82-26 in Opener

NORFOLK, VA. - Junior guard Okiesha Howard (Va. Beach, Va.) scored18 points and Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali) added 15 along with seven assists tolead 18th ranked Old Dominion University (1-0) to a 82-26 CAA and regular season opening victory over Towson University (0-1).

All but one of the Lady Monarchs scored. Monique Coker (Bronx, NY.) cored11 points and hauled in a game high even rebounds for Old Dominion.

The Lady Monarchs jumped out to a 21-0 lead, before Shonte Simpson scoredthe Tigers first basket with 10:22 left in the first half. Old Dominion led 43-10 at halftime which is a new school record for the fewest points by a Lady Monarch opponent in a half. The Lady Monarchs shot a blistering .750(18-24) from the field inthe first half while the Tigers shot .174 (4-23).

For the game, ODU shot .600(33-55) from the floor and forced Towson into34 turnovers. The 26 points by Towson is their fewest in school history. Last year,they scored 34 against Vermont.

The Lady Monarchs return to action on Monday with a 7 p.m. contest atVirginia Tech.

NOTE: Junior College All-American Evelina Nhassengo (Maputo, Mozambique) missed tonight's game as she will undergo an MIR on her left knee after sustaining an injury during yesterday's practice.
