Lady Monarch Basketball Cruises Past MI Express, 90-38

NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion women's basketball team dismantled MI Express, 90-38, in their final preseason tuneup. Every Old Dominion player walked away with points, including three Lady Monarchs in double figures led by junior guard Okeisha Howard (Va. Beach, VA) with 11.

Old Dominion allowed M.I. Express to net just 12 points in the first half of play, while going on to score 44. The Lady Monarchs held M.I. Express scoreless through the first six minutes of play taking a 15-0 run to open the game. M.I. Express' 38 points was the fewest points allow by an Old Dominion opponent since a 83-32 victory over UNC-Wilmington (2/15) and a 78-32 win over William and Mary (2/22) last year.

In the opening half, M.I. Express shot just 4-for-31 (.129), while Old Dominion connected on 18 of its 37 shots to shoot 48.6 percent from the floor. The Lady Monarchs finished the game shooting at a 44.7 percent mark, while holding their opponent to just 20.3 percent shooting.

Other notable performances from the Lady Monarchs include a 10 point, six rebound effort from Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali) and 10 points from redshirt freshman Shareese Grant (Va. Beach, VA). For the vistors, M.I. Express was led by Rea Anna Mulholland with 15 points.

The Lady Monarch women's basketball team will kick off the regular season on Friday night as they host Towson in the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) opener. Tip-off is slated for 7:35 p.m. The game will mark the first-ever match-up between the Tigers and the Lady Monarchs, as well as the Tigers' first venture in their new league.
