LYNCHBURG, VA.-Shane Miller's bases loaded hit in the bottom of theninth plated Joel Patrick as Liberty University defeated Old Dominion Saturdaynight, 5-4. The game was played at Merritt Hutchinson Stadium, home of the Lynchburg Hill Cats. ODU drops to 18-31, Liberty is now 29-19.
Monarch junior righthander Ken Brumfield was cruising along with a 4-1lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning. The Flames rallied for threeruns in the eighth to tie the game, thanks to a two-run triple by Joey Monahan.Brumfield walked none and struckout six.
Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) led the Monarchs with a perfect four-for-four evening, including an rbi single in the first which scored Michael Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) In the third inning David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) stole second and third, then scored onthe catcher's error. In the sixth inning, Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.), whograduated earlier in the day hit a sacrifice fly to score Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.).
The Monarchs fourth and final run came in the eighth as Mark Michael's groundout scored Eure. The Monarchs host Radford on Sunday night at 7 p.m.
