NORFOLK, VA.-- The Flames of Liberty University pounded out 15 hitsto defeat Old Dominion University Friday night, 13-3 in a non-conference game.Old Dominion is now 18-30, while Liberty is 28-19.
Steve Baker led the Flames with three hits, including a lead-off homer inthe second inning. He now has eight homers on the season. Joey Monahan, and Kelly Knouse each knocked in two runs for the Flames. Monahan, Knouse, Jeff Haines and Trey Miller each had two hits.
Old Dominion got on the board in the fifth inning as Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ.) scored n a Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) groundout. John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) later scored on Ross Robertson's (Chesapeake, Va.) single.
The Monarchs final run came in the eighth as Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md.)scored on Jared Musolf's (Lakehurst, NJ.) triple.
The Flames pitching staff of Jeff Lever and Josh Rupe scattered seven hits.Winning pitcher Josh Rupe fanned six in five innings of work. The two teams change venues and play again on Saturday night in the Lynchburg at the City Stadium.
