Monarchs Defeat Norfolk State, 7-2

NORFOLK, VA.-- The Monarchs of Old Dominion University defeatedcrosstown rival Norfolk State Thursday night, 7-2 in a non conference contest.The win ended the Monarchs (18-29) five-game losing streak. NSU drops to14-28.

Senior pitcher J.D Jackson (Sallisaw, OK.) picked up his fourth win of the season, scattering two hits through six-plus innings of work. He held the Spartans hitless until Nicholas Morant singled with one out in the sixth inning.

In the second inning Ryan Dunn (Bristol, Va.) scored on Jeff Eure's sacrifice fly and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md.) later stole home on a on a pick-off play. In the fourth Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) scored on a wild pitch. ODU scored two more runs in the seventh on throwing errors. In the ninth, Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ.)scored on Travis Silver's single and Silver later scored on Ross Robertson's(Chesapeake, Va.) single.

Normal Monarch thirdbaseman Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) caught for the firsttime in his college career.

In the NSU seventh Eugene Goodson doubled, then scored when CharlesMonroe reached on a fielder's choice. In the ninth Goodson scored on a Monarchthrowing error.

Old Dominion returns to action Friday night when they host Liberty at 7 p.m.
