NORFOLK, VA.-- Junior righthander Clark Saylor and reliever Mark Harriscombined on a five hitter and Trey Wakefield extended his hitting streak to 24 gamesto lead William and Mary to a 7-2 CAA win over Old Dominion Friday night. Old Dominion is now 19-34 overall and 6-14 in the CAA, while the Tribe is 31-17 overall and 11-9 in the CAA.
The Monarchs two runs came on solo homers from Jared Musolf (Lakehurst,NJ.) in the fourth and Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) in the sixth. Eure had two hits on theday.
Wakefield had three hits and two runs batted in on a sacrifice fly and single. Brendan Harris also had three hits, a single in the fourth, a triple in the sixth, and a double in the seventh.
In the sixth inning, W&M scored three times to take the lead for good. Harris led off with a triple, then scored on Wakefield's sacrifice fly. Michael Brown doubled home Mike O'Kelly, and Marshall Hubbard scored on a squeeze bunt by Matt McGuire.
Saylor pitched seven innings, allowing four hits and fanning six for his eighth win of the year. Mark Harris came on in the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.
The two teams play the third and final game of the series Saturday night at 7 p.m. It will be the final home game for seniors, Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.), Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.) , Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.), J.D. Jackson (Sallisaw, OK.), Brendan Mitchell(Berlin, MA.) and Parker Friske (Va. Beach, Va.).
