NORFOLK, VA. -Mitch Walk's ninth inning single plated pinchrunnerRyan Bogardus with the go ahead run, in a four-run uprising as William and Marydefeated Old Dominion University 9-5 in a CAA contest Thursday night. TheTribe improves to 30-17 overall and 10-9 in the CAA, while the Monarchs are19-33 overall and 6-13 in the CAA.
Old Dominion led, 5-1 after five innings. In the third inning, Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) scored on Ross Robertson's (Chesapeake, Va.) groundout. JeffEure (Pillow, Pa.) scored on a Tribe error in the fourth. In the fifth Ross Robertsonscored on a wild pitch, Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) scored on Eure's groundout,and David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) scored on Mark Michael's (Gibbstown, NJ.)single.
William and Mary came back with three runs in the sixth keyed by a two-runsingle by Marshall Hubbard. In the eighth, the Tribe tied the game Trey Wakefielddoubled with one out. He later scored on Mike O'Kelly's sacrifice fly. Wakefieldextended his hitting streak to 23 games.
In the ninth after Bogardus scored, the Tribe scored three more times. StephenBooker scored on a balk, Walk scored on Trey Wakefields groundout and Harris scoredon a Monarch error.
Travis Silver, Matt Moye and David Vilardi led Old Dominion with two hitseach, while Wakefield, O'Kelly and Marshall Hubbard each had two rbi's for the Tribe.C.J. Stimson pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first win of theseason for William and Mary. The two teams play again Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Complex.
