NORFOLK, VA.-- Old Dominion University men's head basketball coach Blaine Taylor completed his coaching staff with the hiring today of Larry Krystkowiak, a three-time Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player. In addition, Taylor announced that seven year assistant Jim Corrigan, will be retained on the staff.
"I am very pleased with the staff we have assembled, " said Taylor. "I believe the collection of talents and abilities have set the table for the undertaking which lies ahead."
Krystkowiak was a three-time MVP in the Big Sky Conference at Montanafrom 1984-86. He was a member of the USA National Team which won the goldmedal in Korea as well as the USA National team which competed in the 1985 World University games in Yugoslavia. As a freshman, Krystkowiak was named Big SkyConference Newcomer of the Year. He completed his career at Montana with 2,017career points and 1,105 career rebounds. The two-time GTE/COSIDA Academic All-American graduated from Montana with a degree in business.
After graduation, Krystkowiak was the 28th pick of the 1986 draft by theChicago Bulls. He played in the NBA from 1987 to 1997 for San Antonio,Milwaukee, Utah, Chicago, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for theLevallois Basketball Club in Paris, France in 1996. From 1998-2000 Krystkowiakserved as an assistant at Montana. The team won the Big Sky Championship in 2000.From 1992-1998, he has served as the director of the Flathead Lake Hoopfest,an organization of over 350 3-on-3 teams. His duties included obtaining sponsors, organizing volunteers and establishing a non-profit organization that over the years donated over $100,00.00 to charitable causes in Montana. Larry and his wife Jan have two sons, Cameron (2) and Luc, three month old.
"I have always had a great deal of respect and awareness for the way Larry hasapproached a challenge, " said Taylor. " Having been an Academic All-American, a tremendous pro, and an accomplished human being are all attributes which will aidehim in our setting."
"Jim is the piece of this staff which will tie us to an immediate knowledge of thevarious aspects of this program as it relates to the campus, community, league and area,notes Taylor. " He has handled this transition with a great deal of class, and I think hisyears of experience will lend themselves to enhancing our staff's future."
