Silver Powers Monarchs Past Norfolk State, 15-3

Norfolk, VA -- Senior rightfielder Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC)went 3 for 5 with a grand slam tonight, helping Old Dominion defeatcross-town rival Norfolk State, 15-3. With the win, the Monarchsimprove to 14-19 while the Spartans fall to 7-17 on the year.

The game started off promisingly enough for NSU, as EugeneGoodson and Charles Mann each drove in a run in the first inning togive the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Old Dominion retaliated quickly,however, knocking in five first-inning runs of their own on just onehit.

After NSU cut the lead to 5-3 in the fourth inning, Silverprovided the fireworks for the Monarchs with his first grand slam ofthe year, driving in four runs and breaking the game open.

Old Dominion put the game away for good in the fifth inning, asleftfielder Ryan Dunn (Bristol, VA) and Silver combined to drive inthree runs.

Charles Mann and Nicholas Morant each finished 2 for 4 on theevening for the Spartans.

Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD) went 3 for 6 at the plate for theMonarchs, and Silver finished with 5 rbi. Designated hitter MarkMichael (Gibbstown, NJ), who was also the winning pitcher, finished 1for 4.

Old Dominion will be in action this weekend, when they travel toCAA foe UNC-Wilmington for a three game series.
