NORFOLK, VA.-- Chad Tracy & Lee Delfino each knocked in four runs to lead 14th ranked East Carolina to a 13-1 CAA victory over Old Dominion University Sunday afternoon. The Pirates are now 36-10 overall and 14-1 in the CAA. ODU drops to 17-28 overall and 6-12 in the CAA.
Delfino knocked in Joseph Hastings and Tracy in the first with a single, then homered in the third inning with John Williamson aboard, his 11th of the year. Tracy singled in Warren Gaspar in the first, doubled in Gaspar and Jedd Sorenson in the fourth and singled in Jones in the sixth. Brad Simons hit his first homerun of the year following Delfino in the third inning.
The Monarchs lone run came in the fifth inning. Freshman Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) doubled and scored on a Ross Robertson's (Chesapeake, Va.) single.
Tracy and Jedd Sorenson led the Pirates with three hits each while Davey Penny picked up his second win of the year. Penny scattered seven hits, walked only one and fanned seven.
Matt Moye led the Monarchs with three hits, while Robertson and Allen Strick (Glenn Burnie, MD.) each had two hits. Strick, a freshman now leads the team with a .311 average, while Moye is hitting .354 in 18 CAA games.
Old Dominion returns to action Monday night when they play VCU in a non- conference game in Manteo, NC at 7 p.m., site of next month's CAA Tournament. ECU hosts Duke Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
