Mandryk Pitches #14 ECU Past Old Dominion, 13-3

NORFOLK, VA.-- Junior righthander Jason Mandryk pitched four- hit ball through seven innings along with a 19-hit attack as #14 ranked East Carolina defeated the Monarchs, 13-3 in a Colonial Athletic Association game. ODU drops to 17-27 overall and 6-11 in the CAA, while the Pirates improve to 35-10 overall and 13-1 in the CAA.

ECU jumped out quick with four runs in the first as Joseph Hastings doubled home Warren Gaspar. After John Williamson's sacrifice fly scored Chad Tracy, Lee Delfino homered with Hastings aboard. Williamson hit his tenth homer of the season, a solo shot in the fourth. Mandryk allowed only four hits, walked two and fanned four in seven innings of work.

With ECU leading 7-0, the Monarchs got on the board in the bottom of the third. David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) walked, stole second and reached third on an error. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.).

In the eighth inning, senior Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) hit his team leading fifth homerun with Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ.) aboard for the other Monarch runs.

Joseph Hastings, Jedd Sorenson, Lee Delfino, and Cliff Godwin led ECU with three hits each. Silver and freshman Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) led ODU with two hits each. The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
