NORFOLK, VA. Junior Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) knocked in two runs and scored twice as the Monarchs of Old Dominion University defeated Virginia Commonwealth Sunday afternoon, 6-4 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. ODU is now 17-24 overall and 6-9 in the CAA, while VCU drops to 29-10 overall and 7-4 in the CAA.In the second inning freshman Mark Michael(Gibbstown, NJ.) scored on a double by Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.). In the third inning Jared Musolf's single plated Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) and David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.).In the sixth, Joshua Arteaga doubled home Chris Gerrity to put the Rams on the scoreboard, but the Monarchs came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jared Musolf and John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) both scored on wild pitches.In the eighth inning with two out, Kevin Elrod singed home Arteaga and Cory Bauswell (Chesapeake, VA.). The Rams would cut it two 6-4 in the ninth as Chris Gerrity singled home Eric Latura, but Monarch reliever Jonathan Tinkham got the next two outs to retire the side and pick up his fourth save of the year. The loss was the first of the year for freshman lefthander Sean Marshall.The Monarchs travel to Raleigh, NC. to play at N.C. State on Wednesday night, while VCU is off until Friday night when the travel to William and Mary.
