NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion baseball team scored five runs in the seventh inning to defeat visiting N.C. State this evening, 7-1. With the win, Old Dominion improves to 16-22 on the season. The Wolfpack drops to 19-17.
Old Dominion started their fifth inning outburst with a Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, PA) single up the middle. Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD) singled, and Ryan Dunn (Bristol, VA) tripled down the right field line to get the inning rolling for the Monarchs. Jeff Eure (Pillow, PA), Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ), Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ) and Dunn each picked up an rbi during the inning.
Old Dominion pitcher Ryan Williams (Va. Beach, VA) picked up the win in relief for starter Shawn Weaver (Loganton, PA), who pitched five strong innings and gave up just one run. N.C. State's Daniel Caldwell was saddled with the loss.
N.C. State 3B Sean Walsh finished 2-for-3. Centerfielder Joe Gaetti went 1-for-4 with an rbi. The Monarchs were led by David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY), who was 2-for-4. Freshman Mark Michael went 2-for-3 with an rbi.
The Monarchs will return to action this weekend, when they host CAA foe VCU in a three-game series starting Friday night at 7 p.m. The Wolfpack will play host to Maryland in a three-game series starting Friday night at 7 p.m.
