NORFOLK, Va. (April 1) -- Old Dominion dropped a tight ballgame to James Madison this afternoon, 4-3. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 13-19, 5-4 CAA. The Dukes improve to 16-12, 2-4 CAA.
After an error in the fifth inning allowed the Dukes to tie the game at 3-3, JMU's Jeremy Hays provided the game-winner in the eighth. The rightfielder hit a double down the left-field line, and then later stole home plate for the deciding run.
Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ) was 2 for 3 at the plate for the Monarchs, and catcher John Oehler (Audobon, NJ) and rightfielder Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC) each recorded an rbi.
Dukes' 1B Alan Lindsey recorded the only rbi of the day for JMU. Rightfielder Jeremy Hays and 2B Mitch Rigsby each went 1 for 4.
JMU's Jared Doyle picked up the win in relief after spelling starter Adam Wynegar, who scattered five hits and three runs over six innings. Kevin Evans (Shamong, NJ) took the loss, giving up just two hits and one run over four innings.
Old Dominion will be in action on Tuesday, April 3, when they take on the Norfolk Tides in an exhibition game at Harbor Park. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
