DURHAM, NC (March 7, 2001) -- Pinch-hitter Brian Patrick single in the bottom of thetenthinning lifted the Blue Devils of Duke University to a 3-2 victory over OldDominionWednesday afternoon.
The Monarchs (3-12) opened the scoring in the top of the secondwhen designatedhitter David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) drove in Jeff Eure to put ODU up, 1-0.
Duke answered back in the bottom of the second when Wes Goodnerscoredafter Drew Jordan grounded out to second to tie the score at 1-1. Dukescored inthe bottom of the sixth when David Mason singled home J.D. Alleva for a 2-1lead.
The Monarchs tied the score in the seventh as Ross Robertson(Chesapeake, Va.)singled with one out to score Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.).
Freshman Allen Strick (Glenn Burnie, MD.), Mark Michael (Gobbstown,NJ.) andcatcher John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) each had two hits on the day for TheMonarchs.
