Richmond, Va. -- For the third time this season, an Old Dominion women's basketball player has been named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week. For this week beginning March 5, senior swing player Hamchetou Maiga has been honored by the conference office.
This past week, Maiga averaged a double-double in helping the Lady Monarchs to two conference victories to close out the regular season. She was a main ingredient in her team's ability to earn the top-seed in the Alltell CAA Women's Basketball Championship for the sixth consecutive season.
In her first game of the week, the Bamako, Mali native collected a career-best 27 points to go with 11 rebounds in a 93-82 victory at Va. Commonwealth. She shot 12-of-18 from the field, including 3-of-4 from the foul line. Three days later, she netted another double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in an 85-75 win at Richmond to close the regular season. The games were Maiga's sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season.
The Lady Monarchs closed out the season with a 15-1 conference record and 19-8 overall. They have earned the #1 seed for the conference tournament and will face the winner of the Virginia Commonwealth/William & Mary contest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
