NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior pitcher J.D. Jackson (Sallisaw, OK.) and reliever Jonathan Tinkham (Chesapeake, Va.) combined on a seven hitter as Old Dominion University defeated James Madison University, 3-1 Saturday afternoon in a CAA contest. The Monarchs improve to 13-18 overall and 5-3 in the CAA, while JMU is now 15-12-1 overall and 1-4 in the CAA.
Jackson fanned six, walked two in six innings of work, while Tinkham pitched the final three frames, fanning three for his third save of the season. Jackson is now 3-5.
JMU scored first in the third as Alan Lindsey led off with a double and scored on a single by Steve Ballowe. ODU tied the game in the bottom of the third. Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.) singled and later scored on freshman Allen Strick's (Glen Burnie, Md.) single.
The Monarchs took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Ross Robertson and Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) singled with one out. After David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) walked to load the bases Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) singled up the middle scoring Robertson and Moye. Both Robertson and Moye had two hits each on the day.
JMU was led by Steve Ballowe and Greg Miller with two hits each. The two teams play the final game of the CAA series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
