FAIRFAX, Va. -- Junior thirdbaseman Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) knocked in fiveruns, including a grand slam in the first to lead the Monarchs of OldDominion University to a 16-8 CAA victory over George Mason Fridayafternoon. ODU is now10-15 overall and 3-1 in the CAA. The Patriots are8-12 and 0-1 in the CAA.
The Monarchs erupted for seven runs in the first inningas Eure hit his third homerun in the last two games withJohn Oehler (Audubon, NJ.), Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ.) and Jared Musolf(Lakehurst, NJ.) aboard. Eure alsoknocked in a run in the sixth inning. He had three hitsin four atbats. He hit two homers in the win over Clemsonon Wednesday night.
Freshman Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.)knocked in four runson the day. He hit a two-run homer in the first and singled in two runs inthe third. Moye had three hits on the day.Freshman Mark Michael hit a solo homer in the seventh.
Parker Friske (Va.Beach, Va.) got the complete game win to even his recordto 3-3.
The game didn't start until 3:30, because the Old Dominionbus broke down outside of Richmond.
The two teams play game two on Saturday at 2 p.m.
