NORFOLK, VA. -- Mike McGirr and Brian Lane scattered ninehits and combined to pitch the Spiders of Richmond to a6-2 CAA win over the Monarchs of Old Dominion Fridayafternoon. ODU is now 6-14 overall and 0-1 in the CAA.Richmond is 9-9 overall and 1-0 in the CAA.
Richmond scored four runs in the first off Monarchstarter Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.). John Nathanssingled in a run,and AJ Board's sac fly scored another.The Spiders also scored on a wild pitch and an error.Vito Chiaravalloti doubled home Nathans in the fifth and Ryan Martinslammed a solo homer in the sixth to completethe scoring.
The Monarchs scored in the fourth as freshman MarkMichael (Gibbstown, NJ.) scored on an error and in theseventh Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md.) singled homeDavid Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.).
McGirr and Lane walked no Monarchs and fanned seven.Weaver fanned eight in seven plus innings of work,but walked five.
