NORFOLK, VA -- Senior designated hitter Travis Silver (Weaverville,NC.)Knocked in six runs with a grandslam in the first and a two-runsingle inthe second to lead Old Dominion past Charlotte, 9-5 Saturdayafternoon.ODU improves to 4-12, while Charlotte is 6-8.
The Monarchs exploded for seven runs in the first as Silverknocked inJeff Eure(Pillow, Pa.) , John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.), and Jared Musolf(Lakehurst,NJ.). Later that inning Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) Hit his firstcollegiate homer.
In the ODU second, Silver singled home Eure and Oehler togive theMonarchs a 9-0 lead.
Charlotte scored four runs in the sixth as Brian Bowman,knocked in a run. Bowman and Derek Dixon scored an unearned run andGeorge Sandel scored ona wild pitch. In the eighth, Thomas Bowker doubled in Dixon tocomplete theirscoring.
Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) picked up his first win of theseason and JonathanTinkham got the save. The two teams play again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
