No. 26 Tennessee Defeats Monarchs, 10-4

CHARLESTON, SC. (Feb. 9, 2001) -- Chris Burke had three hits, Javi Herrerahad two hits and two RBI, and relief pitcher Brandon Crowepitched four shutout innings as Tennessee, ranked 26th byCOLLEGIATE BASEBALL defeated the Monarchs, 10-4 in the firstround of the BERKELY ELECTRIC/CITADEL SHOOTOUT.

The Monarchs were led by junior thirdbaseman Jeff Eure(Pillow, Pa.) with two hits and an rbi. Freshman MattMoye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) knocked in a run and seniorsecondbaseman Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.) had twohits.

Senior righthander Shawn Weaver (0-1) took the loss ashe pitched six innings allowing eight runs. Crowe cameon in the fifth for the volunteers, fanning four andallowing only three hits in relief to pick up the win.

The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when theyplay host Citadel at 5 p.m.. the Bulldogs defeatedRichmond Friday, 7-5. Mike Hoover is the Monarchsscheduled starter.
