BLACKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 28) -- Virginia Tech scored six runs in the first three innings and held off the Monarchs comeback for a 6-5 victory. Old Dominion is now 1-10, the Hokies are now 3-3.
Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.), playing in only his second game since returning yesterday from fall knee surgery had four hits in five at bats and scored twice. Freshman Mark Michael (Gobbstown, NJ.) knocked in four runs on two hits, including a three-run homer in the fifth to cut the lead to one, at 6-5.
Virginia Tech was led by Jed English and John West, each with two hits and two runs batted in. Reliever Anthony Miller pitched the ninth and picked up the save for starter Ian Ostlund. Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) was the losing pitcher.
Senior catcher Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) also had two hits on the day and knocked in a run.
Old Dominion hosts Le Moyne College from Syracuse, NY in a three-game series beginning at 3 p.m. Friday in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
