LAST GAME: The Monarchs lost at VCU Saturday afternoon, 74-53. ODUshot.271 (13-48) from the floor and was outrebounded, 40-31. RasheedWright led with18 points and Ricardo Marsh added ten. Earlier in the week ODU endeda three-game losing streak with a 78-70 victory over CAA leaderGeorge Mason Wednesday night. The victory game Jeff Capel his 200thcareer collegiate win. Rasheed Wright led with 18 points, whileRicardo Marsh scored 15. Both Andre McCullum and Clifton Jonesperformed double-doubles. McCullum with 13 points and ten boards,Jones 13 points and 13 rebounds. ODU shot .617 (29-47) from the floorand outrebounded GMU, 35-28. Two-Time CAA Player of the Year GeorgeEvans was held to just nine points.

JEFF CAPEL-HEAD COACH: (Fayetteville State '77), is in his seventhyear at the helm of the Monarchs. He is 200-160 in his12th seasonand 121-95 at Old Dominion. Capel was the1995 CAA and NABC DistrictIV Coach of the Year. In 1997 he was named Virginia College Coach ofthe Year. He won his 100th collegiate victory in the Monarchs 89-81triple overtime win over ninth ranked Villanova in the 1995 NCAATournament. Capel was 16-14 in 1994 at NCA&T, losing in the NCAAfirst round to Arkansas. He compiled a 63-51 mark at his alma mater,Fayetteville State, taking the Broncos to the NCAA Div. II regionalsin 1993. Capel was inducted into the Fayetteville State UniversityHall of Fame in 1999. His Monarch teams have reached the CAA finalsthree times, winning twice.

THIS DAY IN ODU ATHLETIC HISTORY: Feb. 26, 1992 Al Grant scored 17points with 13 rebounds and Petey Sessoms scored 13 points as ODUdefeats UNCW.69-68. The Monarchs would go on to win the CAA title and advance tothe NCAAtournament.

INJURIES: Monarch center Clifton Jones missed the VCU game with abruisedleft thigh. He is day-do-day, but is expected to play.

FATHER - SON COMBINATION: Jeff Capel, III, joins his father'scoaching staffafter a stellar career at Duke University. Capel scored 1,601career points and ranks third all-time at Duke and 13th all-time inthe ACC with 220 career three-pointers.

SERIES VS. UNCW: ODU leads, 15-11. The Seahawks have won threestraight,including the 59-48 win back on Feb. 10. In that contest, Ed Williamsand BrettBlizzard scored 13 each. Williams had eight rebounds. Stewart Harecame off thebench to scored ten and haul in ten boards. ODU was led by RasheedWright with12. ODU shot .319 (15-47), while UNCW shot .431(22-51).

NOTE: The Seahawks defeated the Monarchs here in the fieldhouse lastyear, 60-49.

WRIGHT ON A STREAK: Since Feb. seventh Rasheed Wright has hit 30straightfree throws and is just three shy of the school record (33) set in1992 by Donald Anderson. Wright was 13-13 at VCU Saturday night.

MCCULLUM : McCullum has 1,081 career points which ranks him 29th onthe ODU all-time scoring list. This puts him nine behind OliverPurnell (ODU '75).He has scored in double figures in 10 of the last12 games.

JONES HITTING THE BOARDS: Clifton Jones leads the team in reboundingandhas been the Monarchs top rebounder in 20 of the 27 games. He leadsthe league in rebounding and offensive rebounding. He has hauled inten or more rebounds 11 times this year. Jones has 574 careerrebounds putting him 19th on the ODU all-time rebounding list. He is22 behind Skip Noble's ('71) 596.
