WILMINGTON, NC (Feb. 25, 2001) -- Senior righthander J.D. Jackson scattered six hits over eight innings and sophomore catcher John Oehler (Audubon,NJ.) Knocked in two runs to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 8-3 victory over Appalachian State Sunday in the final day of the Hughes Brothers/UNCW Baseball Challenge.
The Monarchs are now 1-8, Appalachian State drops to 1-7.
Jackson allowed just six hits, walked two and fanned three in eight innings of work. Sophomore Ryan Williams (Va. Beach, Va.) pitched the ninth.
The Monarchs scored five runs in the first highlighted by an rbi double by Oehler and home run by Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.). After ASU scored three in the top of the second, the Monarchs added three more in the bottom of the second to put the game away.
In the second, Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md.) Mark Michael (Gobbstown, NJ.) and Oehler each knocked in runs. Strick was a perfect three-for-three on the day, and Oehler had two hits in three at bats.
Appalachian State was led by Marko Little and Ben Melborn, who both had two hits and an rbi on the day. ODU travels to Virginia Tech on Tuesday for a two-game series in Blacksburg, Va.
