NORFOLK, Va. -- Brian Ciemniecki and Val Majewski each had twohits and two runs batted in to lead the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers to a 6-2victory over Old Dominion Saturday afternoon. ODU drops to 0-5, while Rutgersis now 2-0.
The Monarchs scored first in the second inning. Freshman shortstop Allen Strick's(Glen Burnie, Md.) groundout scored Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.).
Rutgers scored three in the fifth as Matt Wolski singled home Ciemniecki, ValMajewski then doubled home Wolski and Mike Popowski's groundout scored Majewski. ODU cut it to 3-2 as Freshman Joe Moore (Woodbridge, Va.) knocked in freshman Mark Michael (Gobbstown, NJ.). Jeff Eure later doubled in the inning, but Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.), in for the injured Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, Pa.) was thrown out at the plate by Tim Sweeney.
In the seventh Ciemniecki doubled and scored on a single by Majewski. In theeighth, Rutgers scored two more runs on a two out triple by Ciemniecki.
The two teams play the final game of the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
