CBS Commentator Jim Nantz To Speak At Tip-Off Luncheon

NORFOLK, VA. (Sept. 18) - Jim Nantz, CBS sports studio host and commentator, will be the featured keynote speaker at a basketball tip-off luncheon at 12 noon on Oct. 13 at Old Dominion University's Webb Student Center, as announced on Sept. 18 by Athletic Director Jim Jarrett.

Old Dominion standout and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman Cline will serve as the emcee for the luncheon, which will also feature the men's and women's basketball teams.

Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $10 for Old Dominion students with a valid I.D., and may be purchased at the Old Dominion athletic ticket office at 683-4444, by Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Nantz joined CBS in 1985 as host of the college football studio show and has covered virtually every sport for the Network. He serves as anchor of the NFL Today, and his extensive credits include primetime host of CBS's Sports coverage of the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, anchor of CBS's golf coverage including THE MASTERS and the PGA Championship and lead play-by-play announcer for college basketball, including the NCAA "Final Four" and championship game.

Lieberman-Cline is one of the most celebrated athletes in Old Dominion history, leading the Lady Monarchs to back-to-back national titles in 1979 and 1980. A two- time national collegiate player-of-the-year, Lieberman-Cline played professionally for both men's and women's teams, and she served as the general manager and head coach of the Detroit Shock of the WNBA the past three seasons. She is a familiar face on television, serving as a color analyst for women's basketball games on CBS, ESPN and other networks. She is a member of the Old Dominion University, state of Virginia, Naismith Basketball, and Women's Basketball sports hall of fame.

The luncheon will tio-pff the official start of basketball season, and will be followed by the annual Monarch Madness celebration at 10 p.m. at the ODU fieldhouse. Admission to this year's event is $1 with proceeds earmarked for Coaches vs. Cancer. The event will feature hands-on fan games and contests and culminate with the introduction of the men's and women's teams at midnight and the official start of basketball practices.
