NORFOLK, VA (May 23) - Old Dominion head women's basketball coach Wendy Larry announced the signing of two additional recruits during the spring signing period.
Street & Smith All-American Monique Coker and Sharlenia Charles have both have signed letters of intent to attend Old Dominion University.
Coker (Bronx, NY), a 6-1 forward, averaged 28 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks, and four assists per game for New York Catholic League champions Monsignor Scanlan High School. She is ranked as the 11th best prospect in the nation by BLUE STAR INDEX. She was the MVP of the New York state tournament, leading her team to a 29-1 record.
"Monique is very unique," said Larry. "She has the body to play inside and the skills to play outside. Her strength, her athleticism, her ability to handle the ball, and her sense for scoring will afford her an opportunity to play at several different positions."
Charles (Brooklyn, NY/Tallahassee CC/August Martin HS), a 6-4 forward/center, averaged 5.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for her 22-12 community college team. Charles shot 52.3% from the field and earned All-Conference honorable mention.
"Sharlenia's size and experience, her rebounding skills, and her ability to run the floor will bring much-needed depth to our front line," said Larry.
