EXHIBITION GAMES: The Monarchs split their two exhibition games. Defeating Court Authority, 87-85 and losing to Global Sports, 91-82. In the Court Authority win Pierre Greene led with 23 points, while Andre McCullum hauled in nine rebounds. In the loss to Global Sports, McCullum scored 25 points and freshman Charles Dunnington hauled in 12 rebounds.
JEFF CAPEL-HEAD COACH:(Fayetteville State '77), is in his seventh year at the helm of the Monarchs. He is 188-145 in his12th season and 109-80 at Old Dominion. Capel was the1995 CAA and NABC District IV Coach of the Year. In 1997 he was named Virginia College Coach of the Year. He won his 100th collegiate victory in the Monarchs 89-81 triple overtime win over ninth ranked Villanova in the 1995 NCAA Tournament. Capel was 16-14 in 1994 at NCA&T, losing in the NCAA first round to Arkansas. He compiled a 63-51 mark at his alma mater, Fayetteville State, taking the Broncos to the NCAA Div. II regionals in 1993. Capel was inducted into the Fayetteville State University Hall of Fame in 1999. His Monarch teams have reached the CAA finals three times, winning twice.

ABOUT GARDNER-WEBB: The school is located in Boiling Spring, NC. Last year, the Bulldogs were 25-5 in their final year in Division II and competed in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Last night, the Bulldogs their season opener at VCU, 82-67. Carlos Webb led with 23 points, while Bruce Fields scored 17 along with 12 rebounds. They play at Murray State on Monday.

Since Moving to Division I in 1976-77, ODU is 19-5.In Home openers, the Monarchs are 23-1. Since 1976-77.The lone home loss was to Belmont Abbey, 75-67 in 1977-78 in Scope.The only home opening loss in the fieldhouse was to Biscayne College, 92-90 in 1972-73 season.

CAA TOURNAMENT This year's CAA Tournament will be March 3-5 at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va. The finals will be live on Monday night, March 5 on ESPN2.
