Vendegh Named Rookie Of The Year In CAA

NORFOLK, VA (Nov. 7) - Freshman forward Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) was named the CAA Rookie of the Year and earned first team honors and junior midfielder Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY), who was also named first team All-CAA in men's soccer.

Vendegh, who led the league in scoring with 15 goals, is the third highest scoring freshman in the country and is Old Dominion's second player to be named Rookie of the Year in the last three seasons.

Joining Vendegh as a first team selection is teammate Carlos Mendes, who was the 1998 Rookie of the Year and a 1999 first team All-CAA pick.

Rounding out the post-season awards for the Monarchs are a pair of defenders: sophomore Anders Haugom (Gjovik, Norway) and junior Adam Colborne (Greensboro, NC). Haugom is a repeat second-team selection from 1999 and Colborne is making his first appearance on the All-CAA team.
