GREENVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 9)(AP) -- Alli Spence scored 17 points to lead No. 21 Old Dominion to an 83-79 victory over East Carolina on Sunday.
Lucienne Berthieu added 16 points and eight rebounds for Old Dominion (9-3, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association). Twelve of Berthieu's points came as the Monarchs rallied from a 56-47 deficit with 15:08 to play.
Waynetta Veney's 3-pointer with 39.4 seconds left for East Carolina (5-8, 0-2) cut Old Dominion's lead to 80-79.
But the Pirates could not make another shot. Old Dominion's Natalie Diaz made one of two free throws and Spence connected on two from the line with 8.6 seconds left for the final margin.
Danielle Melvin and Cecilia Shinn paced East Carolina with 25 points each. Veney had 14 points and Tali Robich added 10.
Okeisha Howard and Hamchetou Maiga had 12 points each for the Monarchs.
