NORFOLK, VA. (Sept. 9) - Sophomore sailor Corrie Clement (Metarie, La.) is in first place after six races in the BYO Radial regatta and the Monarchs are in third place after seven races in the Riley Cup Regatta as of Sept. 9. Both events are being held at the ODU Sailing Center.
At the Navy Laser Open in Annapolis, Md., Junior Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, Fla.) is in fourth with 57 points and Matt Allen (St. Beverly, Ma.) is seventh with 70 points. The top six qualify for the MAISA Districts later this season.
Clement compiled a first and four second places in six races to take a nine point lead over Ali Sharp of St. Mary's College. Two other Lady Monarchs sailors are in the top ten after the first day of sailing. All-American Sally Barkow (Nashotah, WI.) Is in fifth with 44 points and Jessica Simpson (Ontario, Canada) is in seventh with 50 points.
In the Riley Cup, The Monarchs are in third with 33 points, just one shy of second second place Washington College. Georgetown leads with 16 points. The Monarchs "A" division boat of Brock Callen and Jeanenne Cochran (Williamsburg Va.) are in fourth with 21 points, while the "B" division boat of Jack Kerr and Liz Bower ( Fairport, NY.) are in second with 12 points.
