Sailing Monarchs Lead MAISA Sloops After Four Races

ANNAPOLIS, MD (Sept. 23, 2000) -- Old Dominion University sailing Monarchs ranked fifth nationally are leading the MAISA Sloop Eliminations at the U.S. Naval Academy through four races. Monarch sailors, Adam Burns (Youngstown, NY.), Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, Fl.), Sally Barkow (Nashotah, WI.), and Jessica Simpson (Ontario, Canada) have given the Monarchs a six-point lead over second place Georgetown. The top five teams advance to the MAISA District Sloop Championships in October.

Thorvaldsen Seventh at the Maisa Laser Qualifier

ANNAPOLIS, MD (Sept. 23, 2000) -- Old Dominion University Junior Ryan Thorvaldsen (Sayville, NY.) is seventh with 23 points after three races in the MAISA Laser Qualifier. Other Monarchs competing are Adam Dunki-Jacobs (Mason, OH) is in 11th with 35 points, Jack Kerr (Seattle, WA) is 14th with 33 points and Ken Anderson is 16th with 47 points. The top five qualify for the MAISA Singlehanded Laser District Championships next week at Kings Point, NY. Dana Clesh of St. Mary's leads the event with four points.
